My Day At The iPlanet : My New Planet Here In Coimbatore

Its April 6th, 2011. I’m on my holidays — which is the so-called Study Holidays — and today I had to goto the AirTel office and the BSNL office to get my SIM card address verified and to get a duplicate SIM card for my mom which was damaged due to the long-term use. So saying, I had woke up late as usual, skipped my breakfast and started moving to the Coimbatore main bus stand at Gandhipuram to meet up with my friend Arumugam. I had planned to have my breakfast in a hotel but due to lack of time, we couldn’t have it and we rushed to the BSNL office first in the next bus. We had couple of fruit juices from the stalls due to the high summer heat on the streets and in the mid afternoon we reached the BSNL office.

Unfortunately, I had forget to take my backpack which had my ID card and photo which are required for the proof we had to submit at the office. Also I forgot to take my mom’s proof, so we could not accomplish the task planned at the office. With dismay on our faces, we had to come to my house again to take our required things for submitting the application form. We got the next bus to my home and notably Arumugam became the first NIETn to come to our house. We reached my house in half an hour and soon hurried after drinking pineapple juice and taking the required photos and photocopies of the address proof. We headed back to the streets and luckily I got my Voter ID at the Village Administrative Office on our way back. To withstand the burning heat, we once again had a tender coconut drink and had lunch at a restaurant nearby.

We searched for the AirTel office in our area and I had one in my mind and on my Google Maps but again sadness swept our eyes since the office was under reconstruction. We went back to the bus stop in the scorching heat and caught the next bus. On our way, we saw the ad on one of the bus stops about the inauguration of the new Apple Store, known as the iPlanet. My friend just said it would be nice to see that shop, and immediately me being a Apple Fanboy, started dreaming of seeing my upcoming Macbook Pro at the iPlanet. I quickly took up my Ike (Nokia 5800) and fired up my Opera Mobile web browser to find the address and the phone number of the store and I found it in a jiffy. We called to the store and enquired about the opening times and was happy to know that it will be open till 9PM at night.

We lots of excitement in my mind, we quickly went to the BSNL office, submitted the documents and got the duplicate SIM for my mom. I couldn’t wait to get to iPlanet, so without thinking anything about the money, we hired a auto-rickshaw as soon as we finished our job and started to iPlanet. It was located in one of my favorite areas at Coimbatore, known as R.S. Puram. We got down from the auto as soon as we reached and searched for the iPlanet in the neighbourhood but we couldn’t find it for 2~3 minutes. Then we walked a little and we were shocked to see a beautiful glass-glowed building standing out in front of us with the banner ‘iPlanet’. I was jumping in joy, took out my Ike and took a rough snap shown in the photo above. The building was so gorgeous that it simply became my favorite showroom in Coimbatore in seconds.

Although my friend Arumugam was hesitating to enter in, I ran inside the building filled with lovely Apple products everywhere. We were welcomed with a fresh Apple trainee and I asked to show me the Macbook Pro. Since he was new to the world of Macs, he couldn’t distinguish between the 15’ and the 17’ models so easily. I found out myself and tested out the beautiful glass trackpad and was simply enthralled by its beautiful aluminum unibody design. I asked him a couple of questions regarding the upcoming Mac OS X Lion Release and Education Pricing of the notebook. He was not aware of my questions so he had to check up with the store owner each and every time. After a few questions, he couldn’t take it, so he asked the owner itself to come and answer my questions. He told a good news that there will be a education pricing after 15 days from now and they will help me out in buying that after the release of Lion. They had noted my name, address and phone number to notify me about the changes which will be coming to the Macbook Pro soon.

Then once again I started taking a look at the Macbook Pro, by firing up Safari and taking it to http://www.parithi.com and seeing myself in the Facetime HD camera. Arumugam had his first taste with Macs and I was expecting a more astonished look in his face but I was rather disappointed. Then we took a look at the Macbook Air models, it was just looking gorgeous, like a device from the heaven. Then one of the goons at the shop made us angry by asking stupid questions like “What are your requirements?” with a stupid tone. We got very much irritated with his tone, and the owner soon washed him away from us telling him, that ‘those boys know what they want, you just move out!’. With a subtle smile on our faces, we moved on to my dream tablet, the iPad. We just saw our faces glimpsing on the glossy screen on the iPad and we took it in our hands. I couldn’t believe myself that all these were real and I was jumping with joy in the store itself. With fingers swiping the beautiful glass and apps flying here and there, all my iPad dreams finally came true. I launched Safari on the iPad with my forefinger and it just zoomed in on me and I launched my website on that lovely device. Here’s a snap where my site loads up on the Apple iPad :

I enquired about the release of the iPad 2 in India and the store guy said he’ll notify me after its released. Finally we bid good bye to the store and came out with minds filled with Apple goodness and had a refreshing drink at the fruit bar. Then we got the bus and came home. This could be one of the best days of my life!!! :) :) ;)
