Gods must be Crazy!

I could still remember the old childhood days when I was around 10 or 11 when Muhil Akka used to request me and my bro to watch the movie, which she got from her uncle in the United States. The movie is named the same as this post and I really believe that it’s kinda true now. As I hoped, the things and my gang has become normal again. I could even say it got better than before with all the extra fun we have, like teasing Ishwarya mainly. I’m just sooooooo happiee.

Last week we had Abi’s birthday and we had planned to come early to the office and surprise her by keeping a lot of balloons in her cabin. She just loves balloons a lot and the promising girls ( Chetna and Ishwarya ) came late as usual but they had got the things prepared well. We blew the balloons one by one and set it up near her computer. Later on, by the afternoon we gifted her a teddy bear and kept a ‘H_abi_ Birthday’ wallpaper on her PC. We believe that she was really surprised and we made her accept that it was not just another day, as she stated a day before.

The next day, we had booked tickets as per Chetna’s wish to watch the movie Barfi and also to get another birthday gift for Abi. So thinking that everyone will get ready on time, I woke up very early and got ready for moving out. I skipped breakfast and also started urging Vishnu to get ready soon. After a lot of quarrels, Me, Sri and Vishnu reached the Express Avenue mall and started to wait for them. The boys started to lose their patience and so the three of us went to the Kwality Walls Ice cream booth and they bought a couple of cones. Me? I went to the candy shop and bought M&Ms to show Chetna how it tastes like. Although she wasn’t that impressed, I really loved my world’s favorite peanut filled chocolate candy beans which reminded me the days when I used to play NASCAR on my PlayStation with my bro.

Later on, we went to Impulse — a store for buying gifts and goodies. It was the shop where we bought gifts for Ishwarya, Santhosh and the purple slapstick for me (Now gifted to Chetna). We didn’t find anything good for Abi there and so we moved on to the movie at the Satyam Cinemas.

Abi had come a little late and the other boys came when during the interval of the movie since they had heavy work at office. And about the movie? It was a very beautiful chaplinesque movie, I really loved it coz the hero did a lot of things that are common to me and the story was superb. Although I couldn’t understand everything, I was able to get the main theme of the movie thanks to Chetna’s translation. Something to be noted, this was my first Hindi movie in a theatre. When the movie was over, I actually thought we would goto Blur but all others were too busy to atleast hear my words, well maybe because we were all damn hungry. We searched the roads for the nearest hotels but we couldn’t find any. I came across one of the most irritating and idiotic things that some guys do, which I have only seen in the movies. Next, we took a bus and started moving to Besant Nagar. On the way, I was extremely sleepy so I started sleeping unknowingly without the notice of others I guess.

After meeting up with Santhosh and Karthick at Besant nagar, we went to a rich, superbly classy Indian restaurant called the Dindugal Thalapaakatti. The water tumblers were made of brass and was very heavy, the food tasted rich and spicy.

After finishing our late lunch, we then moved to the besant nagar beach. Santhosh had left us and went home. We walked to the beach and had fun shooting balloons with the air gun but unfortunately I missed to shoot those moments in my Xype :-(. Up next, we headed near the shore.

I tried a little photography fun here and there, nothing came out well. We sat in the sand for some time and suddenly Chetna wanted to get into the waters. We resisted at first, but after sometime, we wrapped up everything and moved into the sea. Everyone scolded me not to remove my shoes and told to stay in the beach but I couldn’t say no to my best friend’s words. I removed my socks and my Reebok shoes and jumped into the water. Sri didn’t get in but me, Vishnu, Ishwarya, Chetna and Abi had lots of fun playing with the waves. Chetna got really crazy and started splashing water on us.Vishnu couldn’t resist and so we started taking revenge on her and literally drenched her fully with the salty sea water. We played a lot, had loads and loads of fun and came back to shore after the sky went dark after half an hour. With lots of difficulty I buckled up my shoes with the sand inside it. It was unbearably irritating and paining but I didn’t open my mouth since others might scold Chetna for this. We almost forgot to buy the gift for Abi and so got the bus after a long horribly irritating walk. We gifted a lovely handbag for her and also a green M&Ms cap we saw coincidentally.

Then we all headed back home. I couldn’t wait to run back to hostel and remove my shoes. The moment I came in, I slammed the bathroom door and removed my socks. There was nearly a handful of sand sticking to it, and I felt almost shocked. And oh, if you were expecting to hear about Dharani, he missed all the fun as he was very busy with the office work.

And for the next three days, I lived a life on my own. It’s something I never wish to share with anyone (Maybe very rare 1–2 exceptions). Nonetheless, I did learn a very big lesson or maybe I should say I realized something important. My lovable Consim friends may not always be with me or care for me deeply as those in my college days, but they are definitely the best, the most awesome friends I had like those in the days of my childhood. When I came to Chennai, I came with nothing, but now I have one of the most valuable properties in the world, something I can’t live without for even a day.

Even if we have a lot of money, keep treats often, I dont think it will ever match the taste and have the real pure-fun as those treats we have with our purses and hearts fully emptied. Something else I learnt was that ‘Just Like the Sand In the Shoes’ (JLSIS) scenario, it’s not the pain I had suffered that matters, it’s the fun we had just before that really makes it worth it. Pain heals, but something you miss with your friends or family, you’ll never ever earn them back. So whenever you love to do something from your heart, never stop doing it with the assumption that you are going to pay for it in the future. No matter how bad the pain is, it will always heal but you may not have the things you loved to have if you stop doing it. Even now, as I buckle up my shoes for the office, the socks still has the few leftover grains of sand on it, even though I had washed it many times. It doesn’t remind me of the pain I had, but only the fun we had in the waters and can make me smile everyday. It feels like I can virtually relive those moments just by seeing it, and thats something you can’t get from a new, comfy, clean and tidy sock…..
