A Journey To The Mountains

It’s September 11th, 2011 and today I had to goto the Blue Mountains AKA Ooty for attending Nalini’s Sister Wedding. My day started pretty early at about 4.00AM when all my alarms screamed together to wake me up as I didn’t want to be late for the wedding. I was hoping that the day should be a good one and I was praying to myself continuously till I started from home. But things started to get worse from morning itself. My shirt was invaded by ants so I had to select another one randomly from my cupboard. Later, I had no food in the morning since I stubbornly decided that my first meal of the day should be from the function.

So off I started from my home at about 5AM. Feeling extremely sleepy, I was not able to open my eyes in the bus which eventually made me to give the wrong change to the conductor and get unwanted scoldings from him. Later, I gave the correct change and started the day with hope that the remaining day will be better. While looking through the window, I could see hundreds of people actively wandering around the streets in the dark dawn of the day, and I was wondering what they were up to. Next, I was preparing myself how to behave at the wedding in spite of knowing that I will not able to follow it. I was very much scared from the past week regarding this since this is the first time I am attending a marriage all by myself. I stopped liveblogging on this post at about 6AM since it was difficult to do with a Nokia device in my hands.

Next I had to wait at the bus stop for about an hour from 6AM, for Arumugam who was late by a few minutes and finally reached me by 7.12 AM. Only then we realized that the bus to Ooty was not available at our current stop, so we had to get a bus to another bus stop where the Ooty buses will arrive. Unfortunately, the bus we got met with an accident with a car and was forced to stop in the middle of the road. We could not waste any more time on it, so we decided to get another bus and started to the new bus stand. At about 8.15AM we got the bus to Ooty, with the last seat which was definitely not favorable for us. Our journey started and we started moving towards Ooty with excitement in Arumugam’s mind and fear in my mind. Although fear is something that shouldn’t be there for Parithi X, I couldn’t help it. I was scared as hell and I was torturing my companion till we reached the hotel where the reception was to be held. None of the things such as encouraging words for my friends, songs by Linkin Park, couldn’t help me to throw away my fear. So, I almost paused the Parithi X system today.

Finally, we reached the place at about 12.15PM and hitched a ride in an auto-rickshaw. We headed to the Hotel Monarch at about 12.30PM and I was mouth shut after reaching there. We did not know what to do since no one was there to guide us. After a few minutes we entered into the reception hall fighting with each other and we were searching for Nalini. She was no where to be found for a few minutes and we saw her for a split second in the big projected screen displayed on the side of the Hall. Arumugam urged me to go and meet her but I couldn’t do so because of my well known stupid shyness. Then one of the persons in the hall noticed us and pushed us forward towards the front of the hall. With fear going off the charts, we moved forward and met Nalini near the dais. Arumugam started talking something to her which gave me a sigh of relief for sometime. Next, we gave the present to the wedding couple and took a snap with them. As usual, I made a few funny things on the stage by trying to run away in a jiffy without waiting for the second photographer and roaming and disgraced myself. Next, Nalini told us to have lunch and we moved to the dining hall. The food was quite different and strange. I was not able to eat it fully since Arumugam was urging me to move out soon for some unknown reason. After lunch, we met Nalini once again with her mom and sister and I took a snap of them but I failed to get a snap of her dad and brother which is quite disappointing. Then we both bid farewell to them and started heading out.

Once again we hitched a ride in an auto rickshaw to the Botanical Garden and roamed there without interest for about half an hour. Next we started walking to the bus stand and took a sneak peek at the Railway Station. On the way we had a cup of coffee at Coffee Day and got a bottle of Appy Fizz. After reaching the bus stand, we were shocked to see that there was huge queue of people waiting for the bus and they were managed by the Police, to handle the crowd for the buses. The queue was long enough to the length of half a mile and we did not know how to get back home. With great luck, fortunately one of the persons started a fight with one of the bus conductors and made some of the crowd to get into the bus despite the conductor’s objection. We used that great chance to enter in and managed to get a seat at the last row of the bus. With a subtle mind of satisfaction, we started our journey back to our homes with music in our ears and we reached Coimbatore by 7.15PM.

So summing up, the day wasn’t so bad, I might have talked well to Nalini but I didn’t, thanks to my stupid fear which I don’t when I’m going to rid off. Anyway, I hope that day will come soon. The day was pretty hectic from the early morning till the time when I finished this post. Regardless missing my NIIT class & exam, overthrowing my parents’ words and being stubborn in going eventhough most of my friends objected, I’m happy that I was doing all this for my friend Nalini,
